Love, Across Worlds

Sara's father promises her to an old man as a concubine. She refuses, so he betroths her to a beggar instead, and she goes through with it believing her life is settled. On the wedding night the beggar waves a hand and the ruined country temple turns into blessed ground. He is a god who came down to earth in that form to undergo a trial of love. He is called back to heaven at once and promises to return for her in seven days. A day in heaven is a year on earth. She gives birth to twins and raises them alone through seven years of humiliation from her own family and the people around her. When he finishes his duties and comes down again to look for her, her heart is being cut out and her blood drained, and the twins are about to be used as ingredients in an elixir. He swears revenge and puts everything he has into protecting his wife and children.
