Gift of Sight, Truth of Love

Hawthorne Sinclair believes he cannot father children, so when Maya Holden turns up pregnant after one night together, he decides she is after his money and refuses to acknowledge the child. Maya had been working nights at a club to cover her tuition, which is how they met in the first place. She has the baby alone. It comes early and develops heart failure, and the surgery has to be paid for. Maya looks for work and finds every door shut, because Sinclair has told the industry not to hire her. To get the money for her child, she agrees to donate her cornea to Sinclair, and neither of them is told who is on the other end of the arrangement. Brianna Dalton and the question of who Maya's birth parents are complicate matters further, and the legal fight that follows drags the whole business into the open.
