Light My Fire

Edith Blair, called Elyn Austin in some tellings, had been married three years to a firefighter. The marriage was arranged, and in three years there had been no affection and no intimacy between them. Before the marriage she had already been in love with him for ten years and had never said so. She found out he had gotten another woman pregnant. She asked for a divorce, which meant giving up the ten years. He refused to sign the papers. His condition was that she spend one more month with him acting like a wife who loved him. She agreed. During that month Edith learns that something between them had been misunderstood from the beginning, and had been misunderstood the whole time.
