Checkmate: The Game Is Hers

Eighteen years ago Sean Fu wanted to give his pregnant childhood sweetheart Cherry Jiang standing in the family. He swapped out the son Vera Cole had just delivered, called the baby a foundling, and handed him back to Vera to raise, and in the same stroke took her position in the group for himself. He and Cherry moved abroad and lived as husband and wife. The boy, Andy, grows up and comes first in the country on the college entrance exam, which puts his name in the papers. Sean and Cherry fly home to claim him and the leverage that comes with him. At a reception they press Vera in front of the guests to give the boy up. She tells the room they married overseas while Sean's first marriage still stood, and she produces a DNA report showing Andy is her own son, and that the girl she has been raising as her daughter is theirs. The girl takes the news badly and poisons Andy. With Andy in critical condition, Sean and Cherry come to Vera with papers relinquishing guardianship and tell her to sign.
