Ralph Wright wants to hold on to his family's property and his wife Silvia Lowe. Both are about to be lost to debt, because the man whose body he now occupies was known as a wastrel and spent everything. He arrived there from another time, with two doctorates in mechanical and materials engineering, and what he has is that knowledge. He uses it on the village, teaching the people there ways of making money that lift the whole place. To everyone watching, the spending looks like more of the same wastefulness.
