I Rise, You Fall, That's the Rule

Sara Cole was raised by the Coles, the wealthiest family in Xonos. Four years ago she left them and went to the Rowes in the port city, because they were her birth parents and she wanted to repay them for her life. The Rowes were interested in her adoptive sister Paula. Sara was ignored. Paula accused her of something she had not done. Sara accepted the three-year sentence and served it, treating the prison time as the debt paid. When she gets out, one of the Rowes brings her back for a family celebration, where she says plainly what she thinks of them and breaks with them. The Coles arrive and take her home. The Rowes go on assuming she will come back and ask them to have her.
