Mason Anderson had gone through five secretaries in a single month, so the position was open when Hailey Adams took it. Staff around the office started a betting pool on how long she would last. Hailey heard about the bets and decided she was not going anywhere. Mason picks at everything she does. After one collapse she changes how she dresses and how she answers him, and the office notices. Mason's girlfriend Scarlett sees a threat and sets Hailey up to look like she leaked company information; Mason calls the police over it. When the truth comes out he ends things with Scarlett, apologizes to Hailey and pays her compensation. Hailey resigns anyway, then agrees to go with him to see his mother, who is unwell, and the trip changes the distance between them. Back at the office they both know what it is. Scarlett reappears saying she is pregnant.
