In the Smith household the biological daughter is the one who counts, and Keira Smith was raised there as that daughter, doted on by her parents and her elder brother Joshua. Then Ruby, the real biological daughter, was brought home. Keira was pushed aside, and the family began taking Ruby's word over hers. Their grandmother fell down the stairs and ended up in a coma. Keira was blamed for pushing her, which she had not done.
