From NYC with Warehouse

Adam Foster becomes tutor to the future emperor, though Adam was born in a much later time and arrived in that age with nothing. He travels back from his own era and finds himself the son of an official who has just been brought down. In a single night the family's property is confiscated, its title and standing are revoked, and Adam is left without family or hope. What he still has is a fault in space that links him to a warehouse at Yobor in the time he came from, stocked with modern goods, and he has the knowledge that goes with them. He starts by selling trinkets from the warehouse for the prices of treasures. With the proceeds he sets up farmland, then trading businesses, and he takes on pupils, a good number of them, whom he trains in what he knows. The officials at the top, many of them corrupt, begin to feel the effect of his ventures, and Adam outmaneuvers them as he expands. The post of tutor to the heir follows. From that position he takes part in the politics of the court.
