The Empress's Forbidden Twins

Vera Zane enters the palace as a maid. Her identity has been falsified. She wins the emperor's favor and rises in the inner court, and she becomes pregnant with twins. Once the pregnancy is known she is accused of faking it, and musk is used to harm her. She can hear the unborn children, and what they tell her steers her past the traps set for her. Her inquiries turn up a secret relationship between the empress and an abbot at court, and when it comes out the empress is stripped of her title. The fighting inside the palace gets worse after that, and another consort is brought down. Vera keeps looking into who has been behind the attempts on her pregnancy and finds that a wet nurse and the court physician have been working together.
