The Crown's Betrayal

Adrian wants Dakota to value what she has. She lives like a princess in the Slaybourne royal residence, and he is the one protecting her there without making a show of it and giving her whatever she asks for. She has stopped valuing any of it. Vanity gets in the way, and so does Jonathan, an arrogant man she keeps getting closer to, and she humiliates Adrian while it goes on. One night Dakota drinks too much and signs a set of divorce papers without taking in what they are. Adrian takes the divorce and leaves. The truth about who he is reaches Dakota later, and she understands then that the one person who truly loved her is gone. Adrian, meanwhile, is rising step by step to a position far above anything she assumed he held.
