Break Me, Lose Me, Burn in Regret

The Ashford family picks a husband for its daughter the way it fills a post, on a set day, with candidates brought in to be looked over. Tom Whitmore came in that way once and gave the household the rest of his life. Kelly Ashford, his wife, turned on him, he was put out of the house, and he died resentful. He opens his eyes on the selection day again. So has Kelly, carrying the same hatred back with her, so Tom stands down on the spot and leaves the place to Andrew Somerton, the other candidate. Andrew keeps at him anyway, pushing until Tom walks out with nothing of his own. Cheryl Shaw comes to him at that point with what he needs. He works for the Shaw family's business afterwards and the Shaws climb. Kelly finds out later that Andrew was never the man who saved her life and had been lying to her about it, and she goes out in the rain looking for the things Tom left behind.
