Before the Wedding, Comes the Reckoning

On the night before the wedding Scott Brawley was at the venue setting up. A fire alarm went off at the new house and the call came to him. He drove over and found Alison Ritchie in bed with her stepbrother. Alison told him it was affection between siblings and that it made no difference to the wedding the next day. There were kiss marks on her. Scott had proposed to Alison ninety-nine times over eight years. In that period Alison had acted against Scott's interest in her stepbrother's favor on several occasions, and Scott had expected the marriage to put an end to that. That night Scott called his grandfather and accepted the match the family had arranged for him. The ceremony was to go ahead as scheduled, with the other woman standing in as the bride.
