Elowen was born into a corporate family and raised to be useful to it, and she learned early to keep her actual coldness under a gentle, saintly surface. She is very good at reading people and moving them where she wants them. Facing an engagement she does not want and a family that will not let go of her, she starts planning a murder to get clear of both. Around then Sera reappears. Sera is an underground fighter Elowen pulled out of trouble once, years ago, and she is now buried in gambling debts with nowhere else to go. Elowen offers a deal: submit completely, live under her protection, be her dog. Sera takes it. What Elowen does not know is that she has been the thing Sera has wanted and could not have since the day they met, and that the obedience is not only about the money. Elowen treats her as a possession at first. The gap in their positions is enormous and neither of them can say out loud what the arrangement has become.
