The Past We Never Buried

Raymond's family had money and Starling did not, and they were against the two of them from the start. Raymond and Starling stayed together anyway and made promises about how long it would last. Then there was an accident. Raymond and his mother both came out of it needing saving, and the price of that was Starling taking money and going. What Raymond was left with was a woman who walked out on him at the worst of it for a payout, and Starling let that version stand. She has kept Raymond to herself for five years since, raising their twins alone and putting the rest into her job, and then he turns up in her life again.
