Cedric York marries into the Kent family and moves in as their son-in-law. He took the arrangement because the Kents can tell him something about where he came from. The three years before that he spent in prison, serving a sentence for his brother. The other inmates worked him over until the Elixir Sage took him in hand and taught him medicine. He learned in there that he carries the blood of the true dragon, and that the dragon bones were cut out of him. After the wedding he gets closer to his wife and keeps pulling at the question of his own birth at the same time. The trials run on for a long stretch, and he comes out of them as someone people defer to.
