The Counterattack of the Vulgar Queen

A scholar finds a woman who has lost her memory in an accident and tells her he is her husband. He takes her savings and her jade pendant, uses the money to sit the imperial examinations, places first, and marries a princess. The woman is Selena, who sold tofu in a market town. Seven years earlier she had married a man passing through as a commoner. He was the emperor, and he was called back to the palace the day after the wedding when trouble broke out at court. The accident came after that. When Selena's memory returns she travels to the capital with her son to find the scholar and take back what he took. He says he has never seen her. He and the princess set about harassing her, and the harassment turns into an attempt on her life. Selena comes out of it with her face ruined, and gets the boy away. The emperor pulls a woman and a child out of danger and has the matter looked into. A ceremony to install an empress is set to take place in the capital.
