Secret to Mrs. Lowe

Celia Shaw sells herself into service in Ethan Lowe's house, and Ethan, who wants nothing to do with the women the factions keep sending into his household, decides she is one more of them and treats her with contempt and suspicion. He does not know that her father is the teacher he studied under. The Song family, corrupt officials, framed the teacher, and the Shaw household was wiped out on the strength of it. Celia's brother was shot, and her father is in prison waiting to be executed. Celia has hidden who she is so that she can get close enough to Ethan to plead the case. Ethan at this point is a young commander in the warlord years, going after corrupt officials and the men who prop them up. One night the two of them end up in bed. Six months on Celia is pregnant. The Song daughter, who has been working to become the commander's wife, finds out, and she comes at Celia with an electric saw meaning to open her belly. That is the moment Ethan learns whose daughter Celia is. He gets her and the unborn child out alive, and the fighting inside the household goes on after that.
