She opened the Fengqi Pavilion in a city divided between the gangs, the French Concession and the Japanese. The front of the house was a qipao club and she ran it herself. Behind that she took in women who had nowhere else to go and kept an information network working on all three sides. The man she trusted with the network sold her out. She was framed for a crime and the enemies she had made used the opening to come after her. She got clear of the charge and went back down the chain after the informer and after the men who had been selling to the Japanese. She was pregnant by that point and was looking for a new place to move the women and the work into.
