The Bait Bride

Lydia Hart's mother is dead and the family that remains has debts to settle. They sell her into a marriage she did not agree to. Adrian Blake pulls her out of it and tells everyone she is his girlfriend, and for a while Lydia thinks that is what she is. What she works out later is that Adrian took her on to draw out a rival, and that the woman he wants is someone else. On the day of the wedding Lydia refuses to go through with the arrangement she was handed. She swaps places with the other bride and marries Lucien Carter instead, a blind man the guests treat as a joke. Lucien turns out to be less helpless than the room assumes. He shields Lydia from Adrian's people and starts pulling apart what the family has been hiding about the sale, the debts, and who arranged them.
