The Hidden Wolf

Kenzo Lionheart, the Eldest Wolf King, left to fight in a war far from home. When he returned, his wife had been murdered and his daughter Kirana was missing. He retired from the Wolf Fang and withdrew from public life. Years later he intervened when a group of men were mistreating a young woman and the older man with her. The young woman resembled his late wife. He got both of them away, though the older man, who had raised the young woman as his own, did not survive. The young woman turned out to be Kirana. Kirana took her adoptive father's ashes to the ceremony at which the next Wolf King was to be named and asked for a hearing. Skycaller Shaw and his men surrounded her there, and a knife was held on her. Kenzo set out for the ceremony. At that point he had not yet learned who killed his wife.
