The Cost of Family

The compensation for Daniel Reed's fall on site comes to about what the operation on his leg will cost and no more. Around the same time his son Ryan calls with news of a wedding. The bride's family has money, a great deal more of it than the Reeds, and her parents have attached a condition to the match: Ryan has to buy an apartment in the city first. The deposit on it is still 350,000 short. Daniel has spent his working life on construction sites away from home, which is where the payout came from in the first place. He can put the money into his leg or hand it to Ryan for the deposit.
