His Daily Proposals

Freya Walker wakes up in her own past with everything she learned the hard way still in her head. She knows what her husband will do, she knows the family that took her in will be picked apart, and she knows how her own death arrives. So she works down the list. She files for divorce and refuses to be the rung her husband climbs on his way up the ministry. Her mother-in-law spreads talk about her conduct, and Freya makes sure it lands back on the woman who started it. Her husband's mistress wants the wife's seat, and Freya lets her reach for it and then take the fall. Along the way she pulls a badly wounded stranger out of trouble without asking who he is, which turns out to be the future emperor. He does not go away afterwards. In daylight he is a minister nobody wants to be summoned by, cold and thorough. At night he comes over her courtyard wall and asks her the same question again, whether she has thought about it, when she is going to make him her official husband.
