No More Looking Back

Mike Aston has his hearing and his voice back, and he has returned to the business circles his family belonged to before the accident. At dinners and company functions he is careful about how he introduces Quinn Ward, the woman he has lived with for five years, the woman everyone assumes was born deaf and mute like him. Quinn's parents died before she met Mike. She found him not long after a car crash left him without hearing or speech, at a point when he had already tried to end his life. She told him she had been deaf and mute since birth, so that he would have someone who understood what he was going through. From that lie the two of them built five years together, through his worst days and the slow years of his recovery. Now that he can hear and speak again, Mike finds himself unwilling to bring Quinn fully into his new life. He hesitates before her name comes up in conversation, and he keeps her away from the people he most wants to impress. Quinn begins to notice, and pieces of her own forgotten past start coming back to her. She remembers that she is the granddaughter of a wealthy family, and that she was never deaf or mute at all. She tells Mike the truth about the lie she told him five years earlier. Her grandfather takes her back in, and with his support she starts to separate her life from Mike's.
