When Forever Fell Apart

Natalie plans a surprise for her sixth wedding anniversary. She goes to the clinic where Ethan banked his sperm, intending to arrange a pregnancy, and is told at the desk that he withdrew the samples a long time ago. He had given them to his first love, a woman he grew up with, so that she could have his child. That woman is back in the city now, and the boy is with her. Ethan brings the two of them into the house he shares with Natalie and settles them in as though the arrangement needs no discussion. Natalie has swallowed smaller versions of this for years. She stops swallowing it, tells Ethan she wants a divorce, and begins arranging her exit while he assumes she will come around.
