The Crimson Veil
Ye Hongzhuang, the daughter of the Chancellor, and Jing Xiuyi, the daughter of the Northern Marshal, are both bestowed with imperial marriages. On the eve of their weddings, they are attacked. Ye Hongzhuang saves Jing Xiuyi, and the two use a secret technique to swap appearances. Disguised as Jing Xiuyi, Ye Hongzhuang marries into Prince Chen’s residence to uncover the truth behind the attacks for both of them. She exposes the truth of her own supposed “death” and helps Si Chen uncover that the mastermind behind the assassination attempt was the Third Prince, Si Xian. The scheme ultimately traces back to the Emperor, who, wary of the Northern Marshal’s military power, had set a trap to eliminate the Jing family. Jing Xiuyi attempts to assassinate the Emperor but is captured. Ye Hongzhuang willingly offers herself in Jing Xiuyi’s place, yet sacrifices herself to save Si Chen when his poison takes effect, and her true identity is finally revealed.The Emperor forces Si Chen to kill the woman he loves. Jing Xiuyi, in a final act, fatally stabs the Emperor, and they perish together. Before her death, the two women swapped appearances back. In the end, Ye Hongzhuang and Si Chen are finally united as lovers.
