I Can Hear His Thoughts!

An elderly woman collapses in front of Hailey Summers and Hailey saves her life. The woman gives her something in return that Hailey does not understand until it happens: when she touches her boss, Ryker, she can hear what he is thinking. Not a general gift for minds, just his, and only through contact. Hailey's career has been going badly and she is close to losing the job. With access to Ryker's actual opinions, she starts turning up with the answer he wanted before he has asked the question, anticipating decisions, avoiding the mistakes she would otherwise have made. Her standing at the company recovers. She also learns what he thinks about her when he is not saying it out loud, and the distance between them closes, until the man whose head she has been reading is in love with her and she with him. Then the ability stops. Hailey is left in a relationship and a job that she built with an advantage nobody else knew she had, having to manage both without it.
