The Neal family owed the Sadlers a favor from years back, and the two families settled it by arranging a marriage between Hailey Sadler and Charles Neal. Hailey did not want it. She turned up as a country girl, on the theory that the Neals would call the whole thing off themselves. The act came apart in front of them, and she ended up cleaning at Neal Corp and then inside the Neal house. There was a car accident after that, and she and Charles came out of it closer than they went in. The grandfather kept the two of them shut in the same hospital room and had a full engagement arrangement drawn up while they were in there. One of the women around Charles moved to break it up and was shown up for it within minutes. Hailey's other identities came out one at a time, and the country girl was the first love Charles had never got over. The Neal brothers started competing for her.
