Trouble in Disguise

Stella Clark hires Marcus York to wreck her mother's remarriage. She takes him for a college student with no money and an eight-pack, which is what he looks like and not what he is. He has money on a scale her billionaire mother never touched, and Stella goes years without finding that out. The plan does not end where she wanted it. Her mother dies and the family fortune goes with her. Marcus comes out of it as Stella's guardian and the heir to what is left, which she reads as a man who used a woman to climb, and she says so to his face. Nine years before, he had told her he would look after her until she was grown and married. She takes that as a duty he is working off. "Since it isn't you, it doesn't matter who I marry," she tells him. He goes on pulling her out of one bad situation after another and keeps what he feels for her behind the same flat manner.
