My Wife Ran Away Again

The Young Marshal introduces his wife everywhere as a country girl who knows nothing about fashion, medicine, or guns. "My wife is perfectly obedient, my word is law," he tells people, and he says it while kneeling on a washboard at home. His wife treats patients with medical skill he insists she does not have, shoots the men who come after her, and puts the society women of the city so far in the shade that they ask who is bullying whom. The adjutants at the warlord's mansion listen to him defend her from bullying she does not need and ask him to keep hold of some dignity. She has a background she has not told him about.
