The Invincible Bodyguard: One Punch to the Heart

Yi Feng is a bodyguard of the highest grade who lives in an ordinary flat, in an ordinary neighborhood, and lets nobody know what he can do. He came back to the city to look for a girl he knew as a child and had never forgotten. The work finds him instead: he is hired to protect Gu Qingcheng, a businesswoman whose life is under threat. The threats come from the old moneyed families, and they arrive as ambushes, staged accidents and paid men, one after another. He handles them fast and without explanation. Because he explains nothing, Gu Qingcheng misreads him constantly, and the distance between them grows even as he keeps her alive. The attackers get better as the layers of the scheme peel back, and the deeper he goes the clearer it becomes that the conspiracy is tied to his own past, to the events that made him disappear from public life in the first place. Old grudges he had considered settled turn out to be the engine of everything happening to her. He goes on doing the job as a bodyguard does it, standing between her and whoever comes next, while the buried history keeps surfacing around them both.
