Brooke White and another baby were swapped, and she grew up in the wrong family. She was working as a lawyer by the time it came out. She went back to her birth family, and the return came with a marriage to Sean Stone, a businessman the family needed on its side. The two of them began as strangers with an agreement between them. Brooke had her cases to run, a foster mother who had always favoured the other daughter, and that daughter setting things up against her again and again. Sean Stone is stiff and old-fashioned in his manner, and he stood by his wife each time, in small ways she noticed. The distance between them wore down as they stopped guarding themselves, and the arrangement turned into something both of them wanted.
