When Silence Breaks Her Heart

A pregnant woman is brought in after a car accident. The doctor who takes the case is Cara, and she is pregnant herself. The patient's name is Kara, near enough to her own that the file looks like a clerical error, and she is the woman Cara's husband Leander loved before the marriage, come home to give birth. Cara ends up her attending physician. She also ends up sharing her husband with her, because Leander cannot put down what he never finished. Kara is coddled and knows it, and she pushes at the arrangement with small demands that get larger. Cara handles all of it without raising her voice, keeping the household running and her own dignity intact, weighing what she owes her parents against what the marriage has become. Kara's behavior eventually starts working on Leander's nerves in a way nothing Cara says could. Cara files for divorce and makes arrangements to study abroad while looking after her aging parents.
