Go Where You are

Jim Moore was in love with Reta Scott through college and never told her. Years later her family was pushing her towards a marriage and humiliating her over it, and he came to her with a contract: a marriage registered on the spot, good for one year. As the year ran down, Jim took a senior post at Reta's company without telling her who he was, and put himself between her and the people working against her there. They were closer by then than the contract asked for. Reta believed the man who had carried her out of a fire years earlier was her first love from college, and Jim heard her say so and let it stand. Then a childhood friend of his went to work on her, until Reta was convinced her husband had married her as a stand-in for someone else. She asked for a divorce.
