Shades of Blades

One of General Henry Nolan's own subordinates turned on him. It came right after Henry was made the North Lord and handed a python robe and the Dragon Sword of Astil. The attack left him with a damaged brain. He lost his memory and the use of both legs, and his wife Jean Shaw became a joke to the whole town. Alex Cook, eldest son of the Cook family, wanted Jean for himself. He went after Henry in secret, and the harm he did, by accident, brought Henry's mind back. Henry started again from the bottom. With Jean's trust and the help of the people around her he worked through one difficulty after another and kept a clear account of every debt and every grudge. Jean had looked after him for years by then, and he swore to keep her safe for the rest of her life.
