Nora Shepard's father chairs a corporation, and after she finishes art school her parents keep her at home to help run the business. Galen West grew up alongside her as a family friend and intends to marry her. Luna Keats arranges the car crash that kills her own parents, and the sympathy that follows gets her taken in by the Shepards as their adopted daughter. She studies art in the same rooms as Nora, lifts Nora's ideas as her own, and afterward is hired as Nora's assistant. What Luna is actually working toward is taking everything Nora has, Galen included, with Nora gone. She gets there. Then Nora wakes up years earlier, everything still ahead of her and all of it already known, and starts undoing Luna's plan from the beginning.
