Sara's mother built the house Sara now cleans. After her mother died the family made her staff in her own home and treated her accordingly. She keeps looking for one thing her mother meant her to have, a painting, and eventually traces it to Noah Dempsey. Sara had been married to Noah in her half-sister Cathy's place, sent down the aisle when Cathy would not go. Noah was said to be blind, the heir of a family whose fortunes were sliding, and Sara agreed to it as one more thing done to her. Living with him changes that, and she falls for him. His sight is fine. He has been running a very large property group the whole time and hiding both facts, watching an uncle who wants the family holdings.
