Police raid a hotel in a sweep against prostitution and pick up Liam Howell. The call goes to his wife, Sophia Sidney, who is at home with the two children. She goes down to deal with it. What Liam has to say is that she took too long getting there, and that Candice Gosse, the woman he loved before the marriage, was left standing in the sun long enough to burn. Sophia asks for a divorce. The two children she raised herself side with Candice through it. Sophia arranges to leave the country and cuts contact with the family. Once she is gone, Candice's manner changes and the children start asking after their mother. Sophia is abroad by then, with no plan to come back.
