Fallen Surgeon, Rising Redemption

The only daughter of the city's richest man has a rare nerve tumour, the specialists brought in for her are out of ideas, and one night the ambulance carrying her stops outside a small hospital. Ryan works the night shift there as an orderly, wiping the corridors down with alcohol. He was a surgeon before that. Five years ago his own father was on his table and the student he had trained handed him the wrong instrument on purpose, and his father bled out. His hands have shaken since. He took the orderly job under another name and stayed. The surgeon who arrives with the ambulance is that student, who now has an international reputation for this kind of case. Ryan is put into a gown and sent into the theatre with him. The old scar on his hand opens under the lamp and blood runs down between his fingers. The student is smiling at him, holding out the forceps.
