When the Patriarch Returned

There was a wedding banquet, his daughter's, and Edward Mitchell went to it carrying twenty years of guilt over being absent. His children and his ex-wife took one look at his clothes and treated him as a poor relation in front of the guests. Twenty years earlier the clan's ancestral shrine was set for forced demolition, and the family drew lots for who would take the risk of standing in the way. Edward drew the death lot. The demolition was stopped and he went to prison for it, and his wife divorced him while he was inside. By the time he was released the clan had grown into a trillion-dollar concern, and they elected him patriarch. At the banquet, with the humiliation running, he tells them who he now is.
