The Mute Witness

Fiona Scott cannot speak, and in the Clark house where she works as a maid this means she is shouted at and hit as a matter of routine. She comes across evidence that Elsie Taylor, the lady of the house, is sleeping with David Martin, who manages the household, and that Elsie is carrying his child. She also overhears the two of them working out how to kill Roger Clark, the master of the house and heir to the family business, and pin it on her. Fiona is angry and frightened at once. She starts gathering evidence in secret, at some risk to herself, and eventually puts what Elsie and David are in front of everyone.
