Jonathan, the lord of the War Temple, is living under another name and waiting tables in a restaurant. His sister has been killed and he is looking into it. He has also built an AI of his own. The AI, on its own initiative, starts an online romance with Stephanie, the chief executive of a company. Stephanie finds out that Jonathan is the person behind it and makes him sign a marriage contract. After the wedding he moves in and looks after Stephanie and her daughter as the stay-at-home parent. Over that period he shows what he can do as a hacker and in a fight. He pulls Stephanie's company out of a business crisis. The L9-level AI he builds draws attention worldwide. At the War Temple's bidding conference he breaks up a scheme by the Dark Alliance, an organisation based outside the country. Later it comes out that the daughter is his own child, and that his sister's death is connected to the Dark Alliance. From then on he and Stephanie go after the Alliance together.
