Winnie Reed woke in the body of Wendy, a maid in the Crown Prince's household whose work was hauling water. Wendy carried the buckets through the night and waited outside the room to attend the Crown Prince and his wife on call. In the version of events Winnie knew, Wendy was worn down by the wife's treatment and did not survive it. Winnie waited until the wife was asleep and seduced the Crown Prince in the same room. She positioned things so that the wife would be facing the two of them. The wife woke and saw what was happening. Winnie had already reached an arrangement with one of the palace maids who attended the wife. The wife ordered a punishment involving a dog, and before it was carried out the Crown Prince arrived. He had taken his wife for a gentle woman up to that point. Winnie used what he had just seen to show him what his wife was.
