Olivia White handed out scratch-off lottery tickets, and one of them reached Laura Davis on her birthday. Everything after that came apart. Her fiancé James Carter was killed in a car crash, her younger brother drowned, her parents broke off relations with her and then died in an accident of their own, and Laura was driven to suicide. She woke again on the morning James proposed. She destroyed the ticket straight away. James was hit by a car anyway, though the surgery on him worked. Her family turned strange after that, doing whatever Olivia told them and moving to cut Laura off, so Laura and James started looking into why. Olivia had used the tickets to arrange the crash and to put about a claim that Laura had HIV. James bought up every scratch-off card in the city to keep them out of her hands, and the hold on Laura's family loosened. Then Laura brought her evidence home, and Olivia took the family back.
