The deal is Ximena's heart in exchange for a sum large enough to keep her family out of bankruptcy. Ximena is the family's real daughter. She signs, cuts her ties with the family, and goes through the operation on her own. For three years she carries the illness that follows, along with her family's rejection, and keeps quiet about all of it. After three years Teresa, the adopted daughter, takes the credit for saving the family and moves into Ximena's place in it. Ximena's condition turns critical. As it does, the truth starts to come out, and her mother Cynthia understands that she has hated the wrong daughter. She goes looking for Ximena, who by then is close to the end, and tries to reach her in time to ask for forgiveness.
