General at the Gates

Silas Han commands the Tiger Guards. His brother Marcus is posted to the city gate. Enemy troops chase Silas and his men back to that gate, and Marcus keeps it shut. The men are nearly killed there, and afterwards nobody knows where they are. Marcus goes home to the village and says that Silas turned traitor and got the village's own soldiers killed, and the village takes him for the hero of it. The anger falls on Silas's wife and their child. Marcus tells the wife the same story and courts her, and she gives up on Silas and agrees to marry him. The wedding is held in the village. Silas walks back into it that day with the rank of Great General, given to him by the Emperor for what he did in the war.
