The two households cut contact and stayed that way for years. The Nan grandfather held to the agreement to the end of his life. The Xu father moved to recover the jade ruyi that had been handed over as the token of the match. On those grounds the families put the marriage back in place, and the Nan daughter and the Xu son were married under it.
