Every Betrayal Gets Paid

Money has been going out of the Scarlet Order's accounts, and the man moving it, Jeff Carter, has been dealing with a rival group on the side. Jeff came into the house as a foster son and the old man trusts him with everything. Luther comes home after ten years away, with a limp in his left leg. Jeff and Lin Fang are there to meet him and both are pleasant about it. The two of them have had an arrangement running for a while. Within days Jeff has him ambushed on a country road and the assault put down as Luther's doing, and the wolf tooth his mother left him is smashed in it. Luther keeps quiet and starts collecting proof of the missing money and the contacts with the rival group. A banquet is put on for his return. Jeff goes at him again in front of the room, and Luther lays the whole of it out on the table. His father looks at the scars on his son and then at the papers.
