A saintess is betrayed and killed and wakes up in the body of Chloe Carter, a village girl in the Grand Canyon with a reputation so bad that nobody in the area will speak well of her. Two souls now live in that body, and which one is answering at any given moment is not predictable, which does nothing for the reputation. Chloe starts with the accusations attached to her name and works backwards through them, and most of the trail leads to a cousin who has been telling stories about her for years. She also has her family's inheritance to recover, a line of practice that has been left to rot. Ethan Walker, heir to money, gets in her way early and then finds himself working alongside her. Between them they deal with the spirits troubling the area and with the people trying to sell off what is left of the local traditions.
