Marco sells home appliances. He grew up in an old apartment building, and years ago the people there did him a kindness, so once his business succeeded he came back and paid for air conditioners to be installed in every unit at his own expense. A neighbour named Marina began filing complaints. She raised various grounds, brought the other residents in behind her, and pressed Marco for more. Marco did not answer her. Overnight he removed every unit he had installed and carried them out of the building. A heat wave arrived. The old building had no cooling. The newer building across the street did. The residents went through the heat, ran short on supplies, and got nothing further out of Marco. Then they came back to him and asked for the units again. Marco produced a contract and said it would be done by the terms written in it. The residents paid for their own installations. Anna, who had not joined Marina's demands, was the exception, and Marco installed hers for free.
